We think public schools belong to the public. That principle guides much of the school district’s relationship with parents and the community, including the use of school facilities both by school-related groups like booster clubs and by community groups in accordance with North Carolina’s Community Schools Act. LCPS also allows limited recreational use of some outdoor school facilities by the general public.
Of course, rules apply, primarily to ensure the public uses school facilities under the same guidelines as our students and school personnel use them. Information on rules governing the use of school facilities and on application procedures for requesting use of facilities are detailed in Policy 5030.
