Business partners new and old offered up their expertise as well as an inside look at their companies to the students of South Lenoir, North Lenoir and Kinston High Schools by participating in the Lenoir County Public Schools Career and Technical Education (CTE) Job Shadowing program this school year.
Now in its 10th year, the program provides students generally a half-day inside worksites for a first-hand look at how inclinations and aptitude become skills and how skills become a career. Our local partners, from big manufacturers to family-owned businesses, share their knowledge and give our students valuable workplace benefits and educational guidance. The pay-off for the companies may be future employees.
Many employers offer their businesses as learning labs to CTE students. This school year students have shadowed at UNC Lenoir, Caswell Center, Field Controls, Kinston Community Health Center, City of Kinston Public Safety, Riverbank Animal Hospital, Simply Natural Creamery Dairy Farm, Corporate Resources, Gerrans, Foster and Sargeant law firm, Lenoir County Department of Social Services, New Vision Christian Counseling, Dr. Scott Matthews Family Dentistry, Lenoir Community College and Dr. Joseph Saracino, Gastroenterology.
The CTE Job Shadowing is open to juniors and seniors enrolled in CTE classes. Students are in good standing and provide their own transportation. The Shadowing Days were held monthly and students apply through their CTE teachers or with Jessica Shimer, Career Development Coordinator for Lenoir County Public Schools, who overseas the program.
Employers or students interested in participating next school year are encouraged to contact Mrs. Shimer at firstname.lastname@example.org or 252-527-9184, ext. 1399.
