After a 13 year hiatus, the Lenoir County Education Foundation is bringing back its Superball Golf Tournament to raise funds for its valued teacher mini-grant program.
The tournament will be held Thursday, Sept. 14, at the Kinston Country Club. Lunch starts at 11:30 a.m. with tee off at 1 p.m.
Proceeds from the golf tournament will provide additional money to fund teacher mini-grants for exceptional learning opportunities in the classroom for which no funding is available. All Lenoir County Public School teachers are eligible to apply for a mini grant, which is capped at $500.
Tournament Chairman Judy Jones, a local State Farm agent and organizer of the original series of Education Foundation tournaments, said the idea formed earlier this year to resurrect the old golf tournament to provide the funds for awarding more teacher mini-grants. This past spring, the Education Foundation awarded more than $13,000 in grants to 34 teachers, but many more teachers applied and a number of innovative ideas were rejected because of lack of funds.
The program is funded entirely by fundraisers and donations.
“We all know that having a great education system is key to helping our students succeed and attracting new business to our community,” Jones said. “Please join us for a great afternoon of golf and know that you are making a difference for our teachers and students.”
Sponsorships for the tournament range from $150 for a Hole Sponsor to $2,500 for a tournament, or Commencement, sponsor. Sponsors are recognized in tournament publicity and most sponsorships include a complimentary golf foursome.
Foursomes can register for $400, which includes green fee and golf cart, fried chicken lunch buffet, team photo and golfer gift bag.
An online registration form for sponsors and teams is here.
