Welcome to 5th Grade ELA with Mrs. Burrus! 

Hello, my name is Katelyn Burrus, and I am a fifth grade English Language Arts teacher here at Pink Hill Elementary. I attended Campbell University, where I was a North Carolina Teaching fellow and earned my Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education with a reading concentration.  I am proud to say that I was selected to be the Teacher of the Year for PHES for 2019-2020, and I consider it an honor and a privilege to work at such a wonderful school with the best students and staff. 

I am excited to share that this is my sixth year in fifth grade here at PHES! I firmly believe that fifth grade is the best grade, and I hope you will agree with me by the end of our year together! Throughout this year, we will read novels, grow as readers, complete technology projects, compose and share amazing writing projects, and have a blast along the way as we grow and learn together. 

Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions or concerns throughout the year. Our weekly newsletter will be sent home every Friday. Please look over it each week as it contains important information about what we are learning in class as well as information and events regarding fifth grade.
