Degrees and Certifications:
Christel Carlyle became principal of Southwood Elementary School on July 8, 2019. An educator with nearly 20 years’ experience, Ms. Carlyle started with LCPS in 2007 as an English teacher at Kinston High School. She has since held positions in the district as principal intern and interim principal at Banks Elementary, curriculum specialist at Kinston High and assistant principal there. She previously worked as an English teacher in Greene County and also served as assistant principal at Lakeforest Elementary School in Pitt County in 2018.
A native of Lenoir County and a graduate of Kinston High, she earned a bachelor of science degree in secondary English education and a master of school administration degree from East Carolina University. As a teacher, she earned National Board Certification and renewed the distinction in 2018.
