LCPS welcomes Rebecca McGann as new Public Information Officer

Lenoir County Public Schools is happy to announce Rebecca McGann has been selected to serve the district as their Public Information Officer. She is taking over for Patrick Holmes, who held the position for a decade and retired in May.

"I want to welcome Mrs. Rebecca McGann to the Lenoir County Public Schools family,”
Superintendent Brent Williams said. “She brings to the role of LCPS Public Information Officer a broad range of talents, impressive educational training in journalism, and a strong record as a broadcast journalist."

Mrs. McGann started her career as a reporter for her college newspaper, and quickly fell in love with telling community stories. She worked part-time as a Multimedia Journalist for her local television station, and once she graduated, moved across the country from Nebraska to North Carolina to work as a Multimedia Journalist and fill-in anchor for WCTI in New Bern.
“I gained incredible, lifelong experience in my time working for TV news,” McGann said. “Telling the stories that matter most to the people who live in these communities was the best part of the job.”

She graduated from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln with a Bachelor of Journalism degree. In her time there, Mrs. McGann helped the College of Journalism and Mass Communications run a hands-on lab that aimed to let students ‘do from day one.’ She worked as News Director for the award-winning student newscast and won several awards herself, including an Excellence Award from the Broadcast Education Association and was named a Top 20 finalist for the national
Hearst Television features competition.

Mrs. McGann is excited to be at LCPS and looks forward to telling the stories of the students and families of the district.

“I’m extremely grateful to the Lenoir County Board of Education and district administrative
leadership for granting me this opportunity,” she said. “It’s clear Lenoir County loves its students and I can’t wait to report on this wonderful community.”

Superintendent Williams echoed her sentiments, saying “We are excited to have such a positive, dedicated, and visionary journalist join the LCPS team. I am certain that Mrs. McGann will continue to excel, that she will build upon the foundation of consistently outstanding work from her predecessor, Mr. Patrick Holmes, and that her talents and hard work will help our district to move forward to even greater heights for the students, staff members, and community that we all serve."
