South Lenoir student is national champ in FFA competition
The FFA Creed is five paragraphs and 258 words. Rachel Noble has spent years not just learning it, but also learning what it is about. That dedication paid off Thursday when the South Lenoir High School sophomore won the top award in the Creed Speaking competition at the National FFA Convention in Indianapolis.

In-school dental care back after pandemic-imposed hiatus
After a two-year absence due to Covid-19, the in-school dental clinics that Kinston Community Health Center (KCHC) offers with LCPS returned this week, doing X-rays, cleanings, examinations and compiling a report card on the state of each student’s oral health – sent home as a way to connect parents with follow-up care for their youngsters at KCHC.

Courthouse tour takes students inside county legal system
The Civic Literacy class from Lenoir County Early College High School took a field trip to the Lenoir County Courthouse and heard from Maj. Ryan Dawson of the Lenoir County Sheriff’s Office, visited both the Criminal Superior and Civil Superior courtrooms and toured the old jail above the courtroom.

NC Attorney General Josh Stein told the middle schoolers at Contentnea-Savannah K-8 School that safe use of the internet required the same kind of care and common sense that young people should use in the physical world. Those measures form the four-point Family Tech Agreement that Stein is promoting through his office.

Kinston High School principal Kellan Bryant was honored by the North Carolina School Library Media Association with its 2022-2023 Administrator of the Year Award.
